(Adnkronos) – A maxi wildfire is affecting the island of Chios, in Greece, in the eastern Aegean Sea off the Turkish coast, for the second consecutive day. The Greek newspaper Ekathimerini writes this, explaining that 190 firefighters and 11 teams on foot are engaged on three distinct fronts. Dozens of firefighters from Athens and the northern city of Thessaloniki are being sent by ship in support. At dawn, four fire engines joined the operation, with reinforcements expected during the day.
Nineteen settlements have been evacuated on the island due to the fires. The flames were fueled by strong winds.
