(Adnkronos) – “I have just signed the executive order extending the deadline for the closure of TikTok by 90 days.” Donald Trump announced on Truth that he has, for the third time, extended the deadline imposed on ByteDance, the Chinese giant that owns TikTok, for the sale of its US assets to prevent the platform from being banned in the US based on a law passed last year in the name of national security.
The move had already been anticipated by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, who explained that the order is designed to allow “TikTok to continue operating,” reiterating that the tycoon “does not want” to shut down the platform. The Administration, she said, will use these 90 days to ensure that “this deal is concluded so that Americans can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe.”
