Iran, Tehran threatens closure of Strait of Hormuz

19 Giugno 2025

(Adnkronos) – Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz to navigation in response to the ongoing attack by Israel. This was stated by Behnam Saeedi, a member of the National Security Committee of the Tehran Parliament, quoted by the Mehr news agency. “Iran has numerous options to respond to its enemies and uses those options based on the situation,” Saeedi said.

“Closing the Strait of Hormuz is one of the possible options for Iran,” he said. Mehr then quoted another parliamentarian, Ali Yazdikhah, according to whom Iran would continue to allow free navigation in the Strait and the Gulf as long as its vital national interests were not at risk.

“If the United States officially and operationally entered the war in support of the Zionists, Iran would have the legitimate right to put pressure on the United States and Western countries to hinder the transit of their oil trade,” Yazdikhah said.
