Wadepuhl, no repercussions from attack on our arms exports to Israel

13 Giugno 2025

(Adnkronos) – Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul ruled out today that the Israeli attack on Iran could have short-term repercussions on German arms exports to Israel. During a visit to Cairo, the politician stated that the Federal Security Council would discuss the matter “calmly”. “But I don’t expect any major decisions to be made in the short term,” he added.

In recent weeks, the Social Democratic Party, which governs in coalition with the conservative CDU/CSU Union, has repeatedly called for the suspension of arms supplies due to Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip. The Union has opposed such a ban.

Following the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, and up to May 13, 2025, Germany approved arms exports to Israel worth almost 500 million euros (577 million dollars), according to data provided by the Ministry of Economy. It is currently unknown whether the new German government has authorized exports in its first weeks in office.
