(Adnkronos) – The Israeli parliament narrowly rejected a motion by the opposition to dissolve the assembly and hold early elections in the early hours of today. Of the 120 members of the Knesset, 61 voted against the proposal, while 53 voted in favor.
The opposition had tabled the bill in the hope of forcing early elections with the help of the ultra-Orthodox parties, in a dispute with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the failure to pass a law exempting religious people from compulsory military service.
