(Adnkronos) – Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will ask for a vote of confidence in parliament today, a few days after the victory of conservative Karol Nawrocki in the country’s presidential elections. The vote of confidence for Tusk is an attempt to strengthen support within his centrist and pro-European coalition, while a tough conflict is expected with the new president, supported by the opposition Law and Justice (Pis).
Nawrocki, a 42-year-old politician and historian, is not a member of any party, but owes his rise to Pis leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Tusk’s political enemy. The incoming president said last week that Tusk should expect “strong resistance from the presidential palace”.
