Iran, 9 ISIS members executed

10 Giugno 2025

(Adnkronos) – Death sentences have been carried out in Iran against nine members of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), found guilty of planning terrorist attacks in the country. This was reported by the Mizan news agency, linked to the Iranian judiciary.

The nine jihadists were captured after a firefight with the Revolutionary Guards (pasdaran) that took place in western Iran in January 2018. “This terrorist cell intended to infiltrate Iran and carry out simultaneous attacks in border cities,” General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the ground forces of the pasdaran, declared at the time. “Some terrorists blew themselves up with explosive vests,” he added, reporting three deaths among his men.

According to the Mizan agency, “the defendants had a fair trial” and “were convicted based on evidence, confessions and testimonies”. The death sentences were confirmed by the Supreme Court, the same source added, without specifying when the verdicts were issued. On Sunday, Iranian police announced that they had arrested 13 alleged ISIS members in a coordinated operation conducted in four provinces of the Islamic Republic.
