(Adnkronos) – The aid distribution centers in Gaza run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (Ghf) have been closed. This was stated by the US-backed group, advising people to stay away from the centers “for their safety”. The Ghf, which began distributing aid last week, said in a Facebook post that details on reopening will be announced in the future.
Operations at the group’s aid distribution centers were halted earlier this week, after days of bloody violence at the sites, during which Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian aid seekers. Yesterday, two sites distributed aid.
The Ghf’s approach has been heavily criticized by humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations. But the United States and Israel have pushed humanitarian organizations to work with the group, arguing that aid distributed through previous, established distribution networks had been diverted to Hamas.
