(Adnkronos) – The newly elected President of South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, elected with 49.42 percent of the votes, promises to “heal the wounds of division and war” with Pyongyang and “we will establish a future of peace and prosperity”. “Whatever the cost, peace is preferable to war”.
In his inauguration speech, he also denounced the risks of increasing protectionism, which he said was an existential threat to South Korea’s export-dependent economy, particularly in the United States. Lee Jae-myung defeated Kim Moon-soo, candidate of the right-wing People Power Party, to which the impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol belonged.
