(Adnkronos) – US President Donald Trump has stated that Canada will have free access to the new US missile defense system, the “Golden Dome”, but only on the condition that it becomes part of the United States. Otherwise, he said, Ottawa will have to pay $61 billion to join the project, estimated at $175 billion and expected to be operational by 2029.
“I told Canada, which really wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 billion if they remain a separate nation, but zero if they become our beloved 51st State,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, claiming that Ottawa “is considering the offer.” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed high-level contacts on the issue, but reiterated that his country “is not for sale,” firmly rejecting any hypothesis of annexation.
