(Adnkronos) – The party of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro triumphed in the legislative and regional elections held yesterday. According to the National Electoral Council, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela and its allies won 82.68 percent of the vote and 23 of the state’s 24 governorships. It is therefore likely that Maduro and his allies will obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly.
The elections were boycotted by the opposition. The only state where the United Socialist Party of Venezuela did not win is the central-western state of Cojedes.
