Saudi Arabia, hefty fines for pilgrims without permission to Mecca

26 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Dozens of pilgrims without permission in Mecca. They were ‘discovered’ by the Saudi security forces before the start of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj). The official Saudi agency Spa speaks of several inhabitants of the holy city for Muslims who allegedly tried to bring more than 40 pilgrims to the holy places. And the authorities have decided on fines of up to $25,000 per person. And also a ten-year ban on entry into Saudi Arabia.

There are faithful who would enter the Gulf monarchy with a tourist visa and then go to the holy places during the Hajj without the necessary permission. For those arriving from abroad, the costs of the pilgrimage can exceed $5,000. The annual pilgrimage is expected to begin on June 4th. Last year there were 1.8 million people.

The Ministry for Hajj has confirmed the severe penalties decided by the authorities, which also apply to those who try to host or assist pilgrims without permission in any way. Saudi authorities are asking everyone to respect the rules for a “safe Hajj for all”.
