Bilateral relations, Ukraine, Mideast, Indopacific at centre of Meloni, Ishiba talks

(Adnkronos) – Strong bilateral ties and, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas conflict and tensions in the Indo-Pacific region were the focus of phone talks Monday between Italy’s premier Giorgia Meloni and Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba. 

“The conversation revealed their shared satisfaction with constant strengthening of bilateral relations,” Meloni’s office said in as a statement. 

“Prime Minister Meloni confirmed her intention to visit Japan in the coming months to further deepen the fruitful dialogue between Rome and Tokyo and, on this occasion, to visit the Italian pavilion at Expo Osaka,” the statement continued. 

Meloni and Ishiba “also discussed major international issues such as the war in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific region, agreeing to remain in close contact ahead of the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis,” the statement concluded.
