USA, June 18th preliminary hearing for Rodriguez, accused of first-degree murder

(Adnkronos) – 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, arrested for the killing of two employees of the Israeli embassy in Washington, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim in front of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, is accused of first-degree murder and other crimes. 

The shooting is under investigation for hate crime and terrorism, and further charges could emerge, in addition to the two counts of first-degree murder and the killing of foreign officials, explained Jeanine Pirro, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, in a press conference. 

“This is a horrible crime and these crimes will not be tolerated by me or my office.” Rodriguez – Pirro later announced, quoted by CbsNews – appeared in court yesterday and the judge informed him that, if convicted, he risks the death penalty or life imprisonment. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18th. Rodriguez will remain in jail.
