(Adnkronos) – The Constitutional Court of Romania has rejected the appeal filed by the nationalist candidate George Simion, who contested the outcome of the presidential runoff held over the weekend, which saw the triumph of his pro-European rival Nicusor Dan. The decision confirms the validity of the vote and officially sanctions Simion’s defeat.
“At the end of its deliberations”, the Court “unanimously rejected the request to annul the elections, deeming it unfounded”, reads a note released by the judicial body. With this ruling, the dispute over the presidential election is definitively closed.
