Iran, Foreign Office summons ambassador to London

19 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Diplomatic tensions rise between Iran and the United Kingdom. The Foreign Office has summoned the Iranian ambassador to London, Seyed Ali Mousavi, after the Tehran Foreign Ministry summoned the British chargé d’affaires in the Islamic Republic yesterday.

According to a Foreign Office spokesperson, the ambassador was summoned after three Iranian citizens were charged with espionage under the National Security Act. “The UK government is clear that protecting national security remains our top priority and that Iran must be held accountable for its actions,” the spokesperson said, recalling the arrest of the three Iranians on charges of “having conducted themselves in a way that could have benefited a foreign intelligence service.” For Tehran, the arrests are “politically motivated.”

Relations between Iran and the UK are strained after British authorities arrested several citizens of the Islamic Republic in two separate investigations related to national security issues, including an alleged plot against the Israeli embassy in London.
