(Adnkronos) – Spectators at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will be able to use “flying taxis” to avoid getting stuck in the Californian metropolis’s infamous traffic. This is the project of LA28, the committee in charge of organizing the third Olympic Games to be held in LA, which has announced a partnership with Archer Aviation to provide an air taxi service during the Olympics. The San Jose aerospace company will offer 10-20 minute flights using a network of vertiports, i.e. runways for vertical take-off and landing aircraft, giving the possibility to move between the various sporting events avoiding traffic.
“Imagine an event taking place at Dodger Stadium and then having to return to SoFi Stadium for the awards ceremony, how can you do that if you’re stuck in traffic for two hours?” company CEO Adam Goldstein told the Los Angeles Times. “Our vision is to fundamentally reimagine the Olympic experience and this partnership represents the incredible opportunity to offer something unprecedented, showcasing the best of Los Angeles to the world,” said LA28 President Casey Wasserman.
Founded in 2018, Archer last year received authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration to commercially test its 4-seater electric aircraft before an official public launch it intends to make, in addition to LA, also in New York and Abu Dhabi. The costs of a flight have not been disclosed, but Goldstein said his goal is to keep them at the level of Uber Lux, the luxury version of the well-known urban travel app. And as with Uber, booking a flight will only require a simple app.
