(Adnkronos) – A bronze statue depicting the American First Lady Melania Trump has been stolen from her hometown in Slovenia. “The police intervened immediately on the spot and an investigation has been launched” to identify the culprit, a police spokeswoman told AFP.
A previous work depicting the First Lady, located on a tree trunk in the heart of a field near Sevnica, in the east, was burned by unknown persons. In the statue unveiled in 2020, the artist Brad Downey wanted to portray Melania waving her hand, a gesture inspired by the pose of the president and his wife during the inauguration of Donald Trump’s first term, in 2017. A work of “counter-propaganda” that Downey had defined as a “non-monument”, against the policies of the White House tenant, recalling that his wife, born Melania Knavs in Yugoslavia, is an immigrant.
