(Adnkronos) – Longstanding friends, allies and dynamic trade partners, Italy and Monaco boast “excellent” ties which they want to strengthen in a range of areas, foreign under-secretary Giorgio Silli said during a visit to the principality on Monday.

“Italy and the Principality of Monaco are nations linked by centuries-old ties of history, culture, friendship and collaboration, which are reflected in the excellent state of our relations, the potential of which we want to further strengthen,” Silli was cited as saying by a foreign ministry statement.

Italy is Monaco’s second commercial partner, with “especially dynamic” bilateral trade, the statement noted.

“Considering the high complementarity between the two economies and the importance of the Italian community living in the Principality, deepening social ties, logistical connections and commercial opportunities is a high priority for the government,” the statement said.

During Monday’s meeting of the third Italian-Monegasque Joint Commission, which Silli co-chaired with minister of state Isabelle Berro-Amadei, it was agreed to aim to hold a bilateral business forum as soon possible to give fresh impetus to economic and trade relations.

The main topics of Monday’s joint commission agenda included boosting bilateral relations, the promotion of mutual investment, increased cooperation in the linguistic and cultural spheres, transport and social security, and collaboration between Italy’s tax police and Monaco’s department of public security, according to the statement.
