Germany, Switzerland: systematic rejections at the border violate existing law

8 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Switzerland criticizes Germany’s new, stricter border migrant rules, deeming them illegal. Germany’s new Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), Bild recalls, announced yesterday, a few hours after taking office, that in the future the Federal Police will also be able to reject asylum seekers at the border, with the exception of certain vulnerable groups such as pregnant women or families with children.

“Systematic rejections at the border violate existing law from Switzerland’s point of view,” the Swiss Justice Ministry later wrote on X. Swiss authorities “will examine any measures, if necessary.” Justice Minister Beat Jans has already proposed a ministerial-level meeting. He has not yet commented on how Switzerland intends to handle asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected.

Beat Jans is convinced – reads on X – that the Schengen states can only overcome the challenges of migration together. He also stresses that these are always people, including the vulnerable, women and children. The coalition agreement between CDU/CSU and SPD provides for coordination with neighboring countries on all measures, Bild points out.
