USA, WSJ: ‘intelligence ordered to increase activity in Greenland’

7 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – American intelligence agencies have been ordered to increase intelligence gathering operations in Greenland, a move that indicates how the US services apparatus is being mobilized for the campaign launched by Donald Trump for the annexation of the Arctic island. This is revealed by the Wall Street Journal, citing sources informed about the directive issued by Tulsi Gabbard, head of National Intelligence, which coordinates all intelligence agencies.

The directive orders the acquisition of more information on the movement calling for Greenland’s independence from Denmark and the attitude towards American resource exploitation operations. Furthermore, the agencies – both the classic spies and those focused on satellite and communications interceptions – are asked to identify the people who, on the island as in Denmark, can support the American line.

The “collection-emphasis message”, as the directive issued by Gabbard is called to indicate that the collection of information on Greenland is a priority, appears as one of the first concrete steps by the Trump administration aimed at realizing the president’s intention to take control of the Arctic island.

When asked, National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt said the White House does not comment on intelligence matters, but recalled that “the president has been clear that the US is concerned about the security of Greenland and the Arctic”. On the other hand, Gabbard’s statement is a harsh attack on the conservative newspaper: “the Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of helping deep state agents who want to undermine the president with politicized leaks”.
