USA, More Hegseth chats on Signal emerge, also used with Pentagon officials

6 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – More chats emerge that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used, including to communicate with senior Pentagon officials. This is what the Wall Street Journal writes today, citing sources informed about the management of the Pentagon by the former Fox News host who state that Hegseth, in addition to the now infamous chats with the other members of Donald Trump’s security team and the one with his wife and brother, had at least a dozen chats on the encrypted app, but not considered as secure as government ones.

Hegseth used the non-governmental app to discuss media interviews, trips abroad, his schedule and other unclassified but sensitive information, the sources specify. But in at least one case, the Pentagon chief used the chat to tell his collaborators to inform foreign governments of ongoing military operations, highly confidential information. It was Hegseth himself who created most of the chats, sending messages from an insecure line and from his personal cell phone.

Some messages were posted by his military assistant, Marine Colonel Ricky Buria, who had access to his private cell phone. It was he who posted in March the information about the imminent US attack in Yemen in the chat that included Hegseth’s wife, brother and personal lawyer. Therefore, the Signalgate that broke out at the end of March seems destined not to stop when the director of Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, revealed the existence of the administration members’ chat in which he had been mistakenly inserted by Mike Waltz, who last week was removed from his post as National Security Advisor.
