Ukraine, Lithuania to mine border with Russia and Belarus

6 Maggio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Lithuania will invest 1.1 billion euros over the next decade to strengthen defenses along its eastern border with Russia and Belarus. The Ministry of Defense announced this, explaining that the initiative is aimed at “blocking and slowing down” a possible invasion. About 800 million euros will be allocated for the purchase and installation of anti-tank mines to deter potential aggression.

Vilnius has prioritized the defense of the Suwalki corridor, a strategic stretch connecting Lithuania to Poland, considered vital for NATO’s eastern flank. In January, it announced its intention to increase defense spending to between 5% and 6% of GDP per year from 2026 to 2030, due to the threat of Russian aggression in the region.
