(Adnkronos) – Italy wants Croatia and other western Balkan countries to take part in the future IMEC multinational rail and ports corridor linking Europe, the Middle East and Asia as well as its ‘Cotton Road’ project, foreign minister Antonio Tajani wrote Tuesday on X.
“We intend to include the Balkans in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)/Cotton Road project to bring even more trade and investment throughout the Adriatic area,” Tajani wrote.
Tajani posted to X from the Italy-Croatia business-form in Zagreb, which he addressed with his Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlic Radman.
The Cotton Road project is a key part of IMEC, which envisions two separate corridors with an east corridor connecting India to the Gulf, and a northern corridor connecting the Gulf with Europe. It has full EU and US backing and stands to provide an alternative to China’s Silk Road global infrastructure project.
