(Adnkronos) – Italy will keep giving Ukraine unwavering support and believes peace with invader Russia will be “difficult”, requiring Moscow to acknowledge its “grave” errors and to open up to advice on ending the 38-month-old war.
“It will certainly be difficult,” foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Monday, commenting on doubts voiced last week by US president Donald Trump over his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin’s willingness to end the invasion of Ukraine amid ongoing missile attacks against the former Soviet republic.
“Russia and Putin bear responsibility. The Russians absolutely must understand that they have made a grave mistake and must start to reason and to accept advice on pathways to ending the war,” said Tajani.
“We are on Ukraine’s side and will continue to support it, even if the goal is to reach a just peace,” Tajani added.
Tajani was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a sports event in Rome organised by his conservative Forza Italia party.
