(Adnkronos) – “Constructive”. Japan thus labels the second round of talks in the United States for a solution in the face of the tariff measures desired by President Donald Trump. The Minister for Economic Recovery and Tokyo government negotiator for the tariffs dossier, Akazawa Ryosei, hopes for a trade agreement by June, reports Nhk, which reports on yesterday’s meeting in Washington between the Minister and the Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, which lasted for two hours.

Akazawa, who had already seen Bessent in mid-April, said he reiterated Japan’s ‘no’, a US ally, to the tariff measures and “strongly urged a review”. And he added: “I think it was a constructive conversation and progress has been made to reach a mutually beneficial agreement as soon as possible”.

“Japan is working to defend its national interests,” he reiterated. Japan and the United States, reports the Kyodo agency, have agreed to accelerate talks after progress towards strengthening bilateral trade, with the aim of reaching a “mutually beneficial agreement” in June.
