(Adnkronos) – A mega blackout has hit the island of Bali, ‘switching off’ what is the tourist paradise in Indonesia. The airport was also affected, as explained by the state-owned utility company Perusahaan Listrik Negara, specifying that operations are underway to restore electricity services on the island and investigations are underway to ascertain the causes of the blackout. The port authority specified on its Instagram page that incoming and outgoing air traffic is currently underway.

“The recovery process is currently underway gradually,” Bali spokesperson I Wayan Eka Susana said in a statement. Images shared on social media show traffic jams in Bali caused by the service interruption and long queues at airport check-in counters. Bali is Indonesia’s main tourist destination. According to the island’s statistical office, the island welcomed 6.3 million foreign visitors last year.
