(Adnkronos) – Pakistan reports that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday gave the go-ahead for a military operation “within 24-36 hours” in retaliation for the attack on tourists in Pahalgam, in Indian-controlled Kashmir, which killed 26 people. An attack that was not claimed, the responsibility for which New Delhi attributes to Islamabad, accusing Pakistan of “supporting cross-border terrorism”. The Prime Minister, again according to Islamabad, would have given the General Staff “freedom to decide on the objectives, timing and methods of the response” and “reiterated his country’s determination to deal a decisive blow against terrorism”.
For the sixth consecutive night there have been firefights between soldiers positioned by the two countries along the Line of Control, the de facto border in Kashmir, Indian military officials reported today. Islamabad reported shooting down a reconnaissance drone that had violated airspace over Kashmir.
Pakistan “has credible evidence that India intends to launch an airstrike in the next 24-36 hours using the Pahalgam incident as a pretext. Any aggression will trigger a decisive response. India will be held fully responsible for all the serious consequences in the region,” Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced last night.
