Canada, cordial telephone conversation between Carney and Trump, ‘meeting soon’

30 Aprile 2025

(Adnkronos) – Mark Carney spoke on the phone with Donald Trump last night, the first day of his new term as Premier after Sunday’s election in an exchange that Ottawa sources called “cordial,” as the Financial Times writes. The two leaders agreed to meet “shortly.” The Liberal Party leader owes the political force’s new victory largely to Canadian resentment over Trump’s tariffs and the American president’s threats to sovereignty. Carney is focused, sources added, on organizing the June G7 summit in Kananaskis and the bilateral meetings that can be organized on the sidelines. “We can’t afford to wait, we’re hosting the G7,” they explain.
