Canada, Conservative leader replies to Trump, ‘stay out of our elections’

28 Aprile 2025

(Adnkronos) – As Canadians head to the polls to elect a new prime minister, Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party, has rebuked American President Donald Trump for attempting to interfere in the country’s federal elections.

“President Trump, stay out of our elections,” Poilievre wrote on X, reiterating that it is up to Canadians alone to decide the future of their country. “Canada will always be proud, sovereign, and independent, and we will never be the 51st state” of the USA. “Today Canadians can vote for change, so as to strengthen our country, stand on our own two feet, and face America from a position of strength,” he added.

Poilievre’s post follows Trump’s wish on Truth a few hours earlier that Canadians may “elect the man who has the strength and wisdom” to lead them to become part of the United States.
