Pakistan, anti-polio campaign targeted, two policemen killed

(Adnkronos) – Two policemen in charge of ensuring the safety of doctors engaged in the polio campaign in Pakistan were killed in an attack by gunmen in the southwestern province of Balochistan. Islamabad authorities reported this. This is the second attack since a nationwide polio vaccination campaign was launched this week. 

“Gunmen on two motorcycles opened fire on police officers guarding polio vaccinators. One of the policemen died instantly, while the other died in hospital from his injuries,” local administrator Manam Tareen told AFP. Provincial spokesman Shahid Rind confirmed the death toll to AFP.
