(Adnkronos) – Over 40 people have died in attacks by the Burmese army in various parts of the country in the last two days, despite the unilateral ceasefire that expired today and which had been announced following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28. According to information obtained from the Irrawaddy news website, the attacks affected four states of the Asian country, causing about 60 injuries, including children and pregnant women.
At least thirteen of the victims are concentrated in the Sagaing region, one of the hardest hit by the earthquake, where over 3,730 deaths have been recorded so far. 24 deaths occurred in different areas of Mandalay. Activists and rebel groups reported that other regions, such as Thanintharyi and Mon, also recorded deaths due to artillery attacks by Burmese forces, which continued despite the humanitarian truce.
