(Adnkronos) – The Supreme Court has suspended the ban on the activities of the Taliban movement in Russia. This was reported by the Russian media, specifying that Judge Oleg Nefedov announced that the request of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation had been accepted. The Court meeting was held behind closed doors. The decision is immediately enforceable, although an appeal is possible.
As the Ria Novosti agency explains, the legal basis for the appeal of the Prosecutor General to the Court was the amendment made in December to the federal law on the fight against terrorism which allows the suspension of the ban imposed on a terrorist organization if it has ceased activities aimed at promoting terrorism or carrying out terrorist acts against the interests of Russia.
The Taliban have been in power in Afghanistan since the end of summer 2021. Since then, delegations from the movement have traveled to Russia several times.
