(Adnkronos) – California is suing against “President Trump’s illegal tariffs that are causing chaos for families, businesses and the Californian economy, raising prices and threatening jobs.” Governor Gavin Newsom announced the appeal, which accuses the Republican president of abusing his authority, threatening trade for America’s richest state, which alone constitutes the fifth largest economy in the world.
“We stand up for American families who can no longer afford this chaos,” said the governor, currently considered one of the most likely Democratic candidates for the White House in 2028, who contests Trump’s invocation of emergency powers, based on the International Emergency Economic Power of 1977, to unilaterally impose, without the consent of Congress, tariffs that have caused an earthquake in the markets and raised fears of recession.
