Ukraine: Kallas, ‘every day concrete steps also from the US’

11 Aprile 2025

(Adnkronos) – “Every day we see new commitments, concrete steps, also from the United States. It is important to send a clear signal: we stand with Ukraine, and this is precisely the meaning of today’s meeting.” This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, entering the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, made up (also known as the Ramstein group) of the fifty or so countries that materially support Kiev, at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will speak remotely at the day’s work, in a context of concern over the unilateral US opening to Russia, the feared withdrawal of US forces from Europe and the consequent need for Europe to strengthen its contribution to continental security, both by strengthening its own defense and by arming Ukraine. In 2024, the EU supported Kiev with 20 billion euros, in 2025 over 23 billion have already been committed, Kallas recalls, noting the increase with satisfaction but stressing the need to do more.
