(Adnkronos) – Iran would like to propose to Washington to work on a provisional agreement on nuclear power during talks with the United States in Oman before continuing negotiations for a comprehensive agreement. Axios reports it citing informed sources. US President Donald Trump has set a two-month deadline for negotiations with Iran and, in the meantime, has ordered the strengthening of US military forces in the Middle East as a further option in case diplomacy fails.
If an agreement is not reached, Trump could order a military attack on Iranian nuclear facilities or support an Israeli attack. The sources said the Iranians believe that reaching a complex and highly technical nuclear deal in two months is unrealistic and want more time to avoid escalation.
“The Iranians seem to believe that it is unlikely that an agreement will be reached within the timeframe set by President Trump. It may therefore be necessary to consider a provisional one as an intermediate step towards a definitive one”, says Ali Vaez, director of the Iran project at the International Crisis Group.
