(Adnkronos) – An informed Egyptian source told the Saudi daily Asharq Al-Awsat the details of a new proposal put forward by Cairo to reach a breakthrough that would lead to a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The source, who asked not to be named, explained that the new proposal consists of “the release of eight living hostages from Gaza in exchange for a truce lasting between 40 and 70 days”.
According to the source, the new proposal is an attempt by Egypt to ”satisfy the requests of both parties. Hamas initially wanted the release of only two hostages in exchange for the fifty-day truce, while Israel wanted the release of half of the hostages”.
