WFP announces closure of bakeries in Gaza due to aid stock depletion

1 Aprile 2025

(Adnkronos) – The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has announced the immediate closure of all its bakeries in the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli blockade on the entry of food, fuel and medicine into the enclave enters its second month. The ‘Times of Israel’ reports, citing an internal memo circulated yesterday among humanitarian organizations, in which the UN agency warned that aid stocks have run out and there is no longer enough wheat flour to produce bread. The WFP confirmed that it has already distributed all available food rations and that unfortunately there are no more reserves.

Israel denies that humanitarian organizations have run out of food. According to COGAT, the Israeli Defense Ministry body responsible for civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories, more than 25,000 trucks entered the Strip during the recent six-week truce, carrying nearly 450,000 tons of aid. “There are sufficient food stocks for a long period, if Hamas will allow civilians to access them,” COGAT said.
