(Adnkronos) – The death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday continues to rise. According to the Wall Street Journal, the death toll in Myanmar has risen to at least 2,028, while 3,408 people have been injured. The figure, the newspaper writes, was reported by the Burmese military junta.
Early estimates from the US Geological Survey suggested that the death toll from the earthquake in the heart of Myanmar could exceed 10,000 and that economic losses could exceed the value of the country’s gross domestic product.
