(Adnkronos) – The UN World Food Programme has enough food supplies for its operation in the war-devastated and blockaded Gaza Strip for around two more weeks, Rome-based WFP wrote Monday on X (formerly Twitter).
“WFP has roughly enough food in #Gaza to support our operations for a maximum of two weeks,” read the tweet.
“WFP currently supports bakeries to produce bread, kitchens cooking hot meals, and the distribution of food parcels directly to families – each facing record low stocks inside the Strip,” the tweet added.
Israel on 18 March relaunched the military offensive against Gaza which it began after ruling Palestinian Islamist group Hamas’ cross-border attack on 7 October 2023 in which militants killed 1,200 people and took 250 hostages according to Israeli tallies.
Much of the Palestinian coastal enclave has been reduced to rubble, leaving hundreds of thousands of people sheltering in tents or bombed-out buildings. Over 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war in Gaza, Palestinian officials say.
