(Adnkronos) – The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) has announced that it will support relief efforts in Myanmar and Thailand. The body – which is made up of ten member countries, including the two hit by the earthquake – spoke of the urgent need for humanitarian assistance after the earthquake “caused a significant number of casualties, injuries and damage”. The BBC reports.
The body states that it “will work closely to coordinate humanitarian assistance, support and facilitate relief efforts, and ensure a timely and effective humanitarian response”. The other members of Asean are Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines.
