(Adnkronos) – Lebanon and Syria have signed an agreement on the demarcation of borders and the strengthening of coordination between Beirut and Damascus on security matters along the border. This was reported by the Saudi press agency Spa, explaining that the agreement was signed by the Lebanese and Syrian Defense Ministers Michel Menassa and Murhaf Abu Qasra in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Menassa was due to travel to Damascus on Wednesday, but the visit was cancelled. As Spa reports, Menassa and Abu Qasra held talks in Jeddah in the presence of Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman and then signed the agreement which underlines the “strategic importance of demarcating their border” and the formation of legal and specialized committees in various fields. It adds that both countries have agreed to “activate coordination mechanisms” to address any security challenges along the border.
