(Adnkronos) – The Swedish Armed Forces have announced the deployment of fighter jets to Poland to help strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, made necessary after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “Swedish Jas-39 Gripen fighter jets have arrived in Poland to patrol and protect allied airspace as part of NATO’s Air Policing operation,” the military said in a message on social media.
In early March, Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson announced that Sweden was planning to send more than 100 troops and six fighter jets to Poland as part of these measures. And yesterday, the Stockholm government announced a historic increase in its defence budget, “the biggest rearmament since the Cold War”, with the aim of spending 3.5% of GDP on the armed forces by 2030, 0.9% more than the current budget.
