(Adnkronos) – North Korea has unveiled what it claims to be its first artificial intelligence (AI)-guided suicide drone, as well as its first rapid airborne early warning radar system. The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, releasing images of the drone and specifying that leader Kim Jong Un personally inspected it and provided guidance to military officials.
“The unmanned and artificial intelligence sector should be given top priority and developed in the process of modernizing the armed forces,” Kim said. Airborne radar systems detect enemy aircraft, ships and missiles, enhancing defensive and offensive capabilities. AI-powered drones can roam airspace and autonomously detect targets.
KCNA released photographs allegedly showing the drone tests. A sequence of images shows the drone flying towards a tank-shaped object and then exploding. This is the first time that nuclear-armed North Korea has officially unveiled an early warning aircraft, which could improve its outdated air defense systems.
