(Adnkronos) – Italy’s government has pledged around 68 million to help war-torn Syria rebuild, foreign minister Antonio Tajani announced on Thursday, saying it was vital to support the country’s transition and reconciliation among its peoples.
“Italy is read to do its part in Syria’s reconstruction and has set aside close to 68 million euros for his purpose,” Tajani told lawmakers.
“An initial package has been earmarked for humanitarian initiatives to aid Syria’s hospitals, health and infrastructure sectors and to strengthen food supply chains,” Tajani said.
In the coming weeks, the government will roll out new cooperation projects and intends to organise a business forum aimed at propelling Syria’s reconstruction, Tajani added.
Tajani was addressing a joint session of the lower and upper house of parliament’s foreign affairs and defence committees.
