(Adnkronos) – Chp exponent Nuri Aslan was elected deputy mayor of Istanbul with 177 votes in favor and will take the place of mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, arrested on March 19 on charges of ”corruption” and ”support for terrorism” and then dismissed on the 23rd. The Akp candidate Zeynrl Abidin, the favorite of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, instead obtained 125 votes. This was announced by the Istanbul city council.
Aslan is a close collaborator of Imamoglu, who from prison would have designated him as his successor.
