(Adnkronos) – South Korea’s constitutional court has rejected the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, reinstating him as acting president of the country. The Yonhap news agency reported. Han took over as interim leader last December, when President Yoon Suk Yeol was suspended from office and impeached by parliament after attempting to declare martial law. However, Han remained in office for only two weeks before lawmakers voted to impeach him. Since then, South Korea has been led by Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok.
Shortly after taking over as acting president, Han blocked the appointment of new judges to the constitutional court, which the opposition had hoped would increase the chances of Yoon being impeached. But the judges ruled 7-1 to dismiss the impeachment. “I thank the Constitutional Court for its wise decision,” Han said after the ruling was announced. “I will work to bring the government back to order.”
