Sweden, avalanche hits group of Italian skiers, 2 dead

21 Marzo 2025

(Adnkronos) – Two Italian skiers were killed by an avalanche in northern Sweden, which hit a group of five compatriots. This was reported by the Swedish police, after the news of the victims – a 45-year-old man and a 50-year-old – was first given by the group’s tourist agency, Niekhu Mountain Villa.

“Two people were taken to hospital, but it is with deep sorrow that we confirm that their lives could not be saved”, said the agency’s CEO, Johan Lindblom, in a note reported by local media. According to initial reconstructions, the avalanche that broke off yesterday afternoon overwhelmed the helicopter on board which the five tourists, the pilot and the guide had arrived in the town of Karsavagge, in the north of the country.

“The internationally certified mountain guide and two of the guests were dragged by the avalanche. The two guests were buried under the snow and recovered after an hour while the guide remained on the surface”, reads the note.
