(Adnkronos) – Germany reopens its embassy in Damascus, after the end – last December – of the Assad era. The German agency Dpa reports. The diplomatic mission was officially reopened by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during her visit to the Syrian capital.
The embassy was closed in 2012, a year after the start of anti-Assad protests that were soon stifled and escalated into a long and bloody conflict. During the mission to Syria, the second since the fall of the Assad regime, Baerbock is scheduled to hold talks with self-proclaimed “interim president” Ahmed al-Sharaa.
