(Adnkronos) – Italy’s security and prosperity depend on the European Union, whose single market is worth 220 billion euros in annual exports for Italian companies, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Thursday.
“We should remember how crucial the single market is and how important it is therefore to work for the completion of the single market, the capital markets, the single energy market and tax harmonisation,” Tajani said.
“From a security and economic point of view, Italy can go nowhere without Europe,” Tajani stated.
“We need more, not less Europe – this is in the interests of Italy and of every single citizen,” he added.
Tajani’s conservative Forza Italia party fully backs rightwing premier Giorgia Meloni in her drive to secure Italy’s borders and “infrastructure including cybernetic infrastructure, which is increasingly under external attack,” he said.
Tajani was speaking on the sidelines of a European People’s Party (EPP) pre-summit in Brussels.
